C-est en 1966 que deux amateurs de plein air fondèrent dans la région de San Francisco un petit magasin de vente au détail de produits d`alpinisme. Le nom de la compagnie provient du fait que dans l-hémisphère nord de la planète, le versant nord des montagnes est généralement le plus froid, le plus glacé et le plus formidable à gravir. Depuis maintenant 35 ans, The North Face offre des produits hyper techniques et performants et repousse les limites de l-inexploré d`où son slogan : Never Stop Exploring.
