What Is A Dry Bag?

A dry bag is a bag that is designed in such a way that keeps it absolutely dry. The dry bag is waterproof and no water can get inside it. So how are these bags constructed? There are two major features that make a dry bag completely water repellent.

First, the dry bags are designed and produced with 100% waterproof material. This can be tested by leaving the bag in water for months and not a single drop can get through it. It is also important to clarify that a waterproof material is not breathable. Even the best breathable waterproof materials cannot stop getting water inside in certain harsh weather conditions. Mammut, Osprey, Sea to Summit, Regatta, and Ferrino offer the highest quality dry bags.

A Drysack is said to be of high quality only when it is made of waterproof material with no holes and breathability. Premium quality dry bags are made of heavy duty, robust, and PVC Tarpaulin laminated. Thin and lightweight dry bags which are made of nylon fabric are not long lasting as this material absorbs water. However, thin bags can be used to cover your essentials for added protection in backpacks, but not for stand alone use.

Second, the dry bag is manufactured by sewing together without making holes in the material. This can be done either by;
1. Sewing the bag all around the corners and coating the inside of the bag with a waterproof coating this approach is not effective and durable.
2. Gluing the bag this method is more reliable.
3. Welding the bag together and making a completely water repellent bond. This method is more durable and reliable.
