Adapt quickly to changes and climb higher than ever with the Osprey Mutant 38L backpack. Designed in collaboration with mountain guides and climbing practitioners, this lightweight, versatile backpack will ease your contact with the wilderness in either weekend or multi-day trips.

Made of high-tenacity 210D nylon, the Mutant 38L’s durability and weather resistance are absolute. Its snowshed fabric backpanel allows greater air circulation through your back and keeps you cool when in warm heights. Its preformed harness - which includes chest and lumbar straps, the latter of which is removable - ensures that your load remains balanced on your torso.

In its front panel, the Mutant 38L includes dual ToolLock™ bungees for carrying ice picks and other mountaineering tools, as well as additional loops on the sides for using compression cords or attaching other gear. This model also includes a LidLock helmet carry™ fully compatible with its integrated raincover. The Mutant 38L also includes an internal hydration pocket for carrying up to 3L reservoirs, as well as a zippered mesh pocket under its lid for carrying small objects. The Mutant 38 is a top loading, lightweight pack designed specifically for the alpine mountaineering / ice climbing minimalist.


Features:

Integrated FlapJacket closure system:

- When your pack is being used without the removable top pocket, the FlapJacket lid deploys to provide main compartment protection from the elements and top-down compression to keep the pack load stable.

- To deploy the FlapJacket, remove the top pocket and deploy the FlapJacket over the main compartment using the top pocket retention straps to buckle and cinch into place.

- Beneath the FlapJacket there is a zippered mesh pocket to keep smaller items organized and accessible when the top pocket is not being used

Removable helmet carry system:

- A zippered pocket near the top of the Mutant pack stows a removable stretch mesh helmet carry system to secure your helmet to the pack when not in use

Removable side compression:

- Adjustable, removable one piece side compression/ retention straps with upper side quick release buckles provide load stability and external carry options while O-ring routers allow for sectionalized compression

A-frame ski carry:

- The reinforced A-frame ski carry loops found near the base of either side of the Mutant work in conjunction with the side compression/retention straps to provide stable, easy to use A-frame ski carry.

- Simply slide your ski’s tail through the loops until the bindings rest on the loop and use the upper compression/retention strap to secure to the side of the pack

Harness:

- The fixed, reverse spacer mesh die-cut foam harness is designed specifically with stability, carry and comfort in mind.

- An adjustable sternum strap with rescue whistle buckle provides proper torsional stability while reservoir hose routers keep hydration accessible and at the ready

Hydration:

- A swen-in hydration sleeve located on the inside of the backpanel accepts up to a three-liter reservoir while the backpanel hydration exit port allows either right or left routing using the elasticized straps on the packs harness

Removable top pocket:

- A floating, removable single compartment top pocket with internal key clip and helmet retention system keeps much needed items organized and accessible

Reverse wrap hybrid hipbelt:

- The padded, EVA foam hipbelt with integrated gear loops and attachment points features reverse wrap hybrid technology designed specifically for use with climbing harnesses

Suspension/Backpanel:

- A removable 1.2mm HDPE framesheet with a removable aluminum stay, works in conjunction with a reverse spacer mesh, ventilated ridged foam AirScape backpanel. This suspension ensures a high level of comfort, breathability and load transfer

Tool carry:

- The Mutant Dual ToolLock system allows easy access to, and secure attachment of all ice tools including leashless tools
