How to Choose Lanyards and Energy Absorbers

When you are climbing at height, a safety Climbing rope lanyard is a must have accessory that connects the harness to a secure anchor point. It protects climbers from falling to the ground. Lanyards are the most popular type of energy absorbers as they reduce the force in case of a fall. A lanyard energy absorber is made of several layers of tape that are sewn together on top of each other. When you fall, these layers stretched apart and provide an extension. All the lanyard energy absorbers are designed and manufactured following the requirements set by EN 361 and tested according to EN 364. Petzl, Salewa, Ocun, Singing Rock, and Climbing Technology manufacture the best lanyards energy absorbers for climbing activities.

Requirements for Lanyard Energy Absorbers

Lanyards and energy absorbers are always attached to the user so that in case of a fall, the reducing force effect directly passes to the user without any external influences or interruption. It is also important to note that lanyard energy absorbers should not be placed parallel to each other. The reason being it will stop them from working and might not serve the safety purpose properly. If you use the energy absorbers in the wrong manner, you must rest assured that the force of a fall will not be reduced to 6 kN.
