How to Choose Shoes for Going to the Mountain

Mountaineering and hiking shoes are purposefully designed for rigid and rough terrains and usually have crampons capability. It means that you can attach a set of crampons to your hiking boots/shoes and walk on the terrains easily and safely. These shoes have better insulation than normal trail running shoes hence they are warmer and more suitable for mountaineering.

Outsole Grip

The grip of the outsole depends on the material used. Leather shoes with soft rubber material provide the best grip on rocks but they are not as durable. Hard rubber soles are more resistant to shocks and rocks and thus ideal for mountaineering terrains. The quality of the outsole’s grip and rigidity enables you to control movement on slopes and greasy areas like wet ground and snow.

Support

While choosing shoes for mountaineering make sure it provides great support. A well adapted shoe for your feet with a high stem supports articulation of the ankle while balancing the overall weight. Salomon, Salewa, Arcteryx, Columbia, and Haglöfs offer the best variety of textile shoes and rubber shoes.

Waterproofing

With a fully rigid construction, a good quality hiking shoe must be waterproof shoes and robust as it lasts longer while protecting the feet from outside elements such as rain, snow, stone, and branches.
