QUARK is a versatile ice axe designed for technical mountaineering and for ice climbing. Its balance and its ICE pick allow solid placements on any type of ice. The TRIGREST and GRIPREST handrests make it easy to handle and comfortable in any situation. They provide more efficient handle grip for difficult sections. Entirely modular, the QUARK ice axe adapts easily to technical, varied terrain: snow couloirs, gullies, north faces, icefalls.
Versatile ice axe for technical mountaineering and ice climbing

Features:

Versatile ice axe:
- Shaft curved below the head and GRIPREST QUARK handrest at the bottom of the shaft to protect the hands on ice climbs
- Shaft has a steel spike and is straight enough for use in piolet-canne mode
- Shaft is hydroformed for optimal grip in the middle of the shaft, for snow couloirs
- Over-molded, bi-material handle provides good grip while insulating from the cold
- TRIGREST QUARK and GRIPREST QUARK handrests strengthen the grip on difficult sections
- 550 g with PANNE or MARTEAU

Efficient placement on any type of ice:
- ICE pick is tapered at the tip (3.3 mm) and versatile across all terrain: snow, ice and mixed
- Compatible with MASSELOTTE weights to modify the balance and improve the inertia of the ice axe

Modular construction:
- Entirely modular head allows the technical aspects of the ice axe to be adjusted
- Compatible with Petzl accessories: PURICE, MINI MARTEAU, MASSELOTTES...
- TRIGREST QUARK handrest is height adjustable without tools
- GRIPREST QUARK handrest folds in easily for planting the ice axe in snow
- Connection hole is compatible with V-LINK elasticated loss-prevention webbing
- Only 465 g, not including accessories

Not perfect one for all, but best one choice for all

This is legendary equupment. It is not perfect but for me it is the best choice fir last few years. I use Quarks for Alpine climbing, Ice climbing (with dedicated blades) but also for drytool.

Legendary and universal Quark. Durable great grip perfect for climbing and useful for alpine touring. You don´t need to have several ice axes, this one is enough

Very good at everything, perfect at nothing

It is a technical ice ax that works for everything but is not perfect at all. You can climb ice but it's not special on ice, you can hike but it's very small, it's not the lightest. I have done runners, ice climbing, crossings, arrests... And in all points it does very well. I would buy it again.

I'm not super fond of how the griprest works when using it as a classical ice axe, I've had it cling really badly in thick spring snow, requiring it to be dug out with another iceaxe. Normally I wouldn't criticize this for an icetool, but since it's aimed at alpine climbing I'm expecting it to do the job of an iceaxe as well :) As it is, on the M4 alpine routes that I usually do, I'll carry 1 Quark and 1 regular iceaxe. Other than that, it's pretty great, and very versatile. Just annoying in thick wet snow.

Excellent for every use, perhaps it lacks on high-level technical use, but it remains an excellent solution to tackle most of the terrains, unlike very technical spades that lack use in support, this allows a good use both in piolet traction that in support thanks to its shape and the foldable hand rest, usable but not the top instead for dry tooling and challenging mixes.

Having a pair of these spades means feeling confident on any terrain, they are monstrously versatile and highly recommended. As the only flaw I can say that on an easy glacier they are not very useful as they are too short to reach the ground.

This is a fantastic axe if you are considering to buy your first technical ice axe. Work for alpine climbs as well as vertical ice, it will be your workhorse to also bring you up the mountain. Handle feels really nice and the adjustable handrest is great and easy to adjust. A more versatile axe doesn't currently exist on the market. If you are planning to climb more technical and steep ice you should maybe consider a more ergonimic axe, but those would not be suitable for alpine climbs in the same way as the quark.
