Powertex:
- Powertex fabric is highly breathable, wind-and-waterproof, water repellent and durable; it is also light, soft and has a comfortable feel for the wearer, and with all these features, offers an excellent price/quality ratio. During aerobic activities, the Powertex membrane draws away from the body the moisture that is generated and evacuates it, distributing it on the fabric surface, reducing internal condensation and making the speed of the evaporation a lot faster; at the same time it prevents outside water to penetrate, therefore keeping the wearer warm, dry and comfortable. Powertex fabrics are available in two, two and a half, and three layers.

Tirolwool:
- The Tyrolean mountain sheep, the typical type of sheep in the Tyrolean Alps, is an important part of the Alpine region that help people there maintain high-Alpine meadows. During the spring, the sheep always move to high ground in the Alps, returning in the fall to the valley. It is quite impressive to observe the freedom with which the Tyrolean sheep move about in the mountains. The Tyrolean Mountain Rescue team has tested the quality of the wool over the course of many years, learning to highly value its qualities. One can’t imagine
the team’s gear without this fiber. In fact, the team has become an ambassador for the wool used in functional apparel on the mountain, continuing a thou- sands-year-old tradition. Mountain peoples all over the globe (not only in the Alps) use this wool to protect themselves from cold, wet or chilling conditions. Over and over, the wool’s outstanding properties are rediscovered and re-endorsed.
A study of wool materials used in functional apparel conducted in partnership between the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue and Austria’s University of Innsbruck Technology Center for Ski and Alpine Sport confirmed: Wool supports the body’s feeling of well-being, both when under stress and when relaxed. Wool man- ages your personal microclimate, prevents over-heating, and helps avoid harmful chills.
In cooperation with Tyrolean Mountain Rescue, Salewa has been allowed to have an exchange of valuable experiences that have led to the creation of a line of innovative, functional products.

Washable– Chlorine-free Wool insulation:
- Tyrolean mountain sheep are put out to pasture in grazings at about 2000 meters above the sea level all summer long, where they can eat only the best fodder. The healthy air, the rich pasture and the fresh water of the mountains foster the health of these animals and consequently influence the quality of the wool significantly. The result is a fleece made by long, straight or lightly wavy fibers, which is both strong and soft. Through the special Oxy-wash (Aqua O2) treatment the scales of the wool are eliminated without damaging the structure of the fibers. Thanks to this eco-friendly process the fiber of the fine Tyrolean mountain sheep’s wool becomes soft, odourless, hygroscopic and breathable. Moreover, the characteristics of the wool remain unchanged even after several washings in the washing machine.
