The North Face Verto Plasma III shoes have been designed for those technical climbing surfaces because they give excellent traction in stones, comfort, cushioning, stability, and flexibility.
These approach shoes have a Vibram Megagrip outsole that offers the best grip in rocky areas. The Xtrafoam midsole and TPU Cradle technology combine to provide stability, support, and good cushioning.
Inside, the Ortholite Hydrid insole guarantees comfort, breathability, and hygiene, since it eliminates moisture and bad smell. The rubber toe cap protects you from impacts against the rocks and the synthetic upper allows the foot to stay dry and ventilated.
If you sometimes think you should be roped up before you get to the wall because the approach is verging on actual climbing, then the Verto Plasma III Shoes are for you. These approach shoes utilise Cradle™ technology, which provides reliable heel stability. The toe area gives added stiffness over technical rock; the midsole is packed with shock-absorbing XtraFoam™ for support when carrying a backpack laden with climbing gear; and the heel shape is optimised for comfort. Add to this the Vibram® Megagrip outsoles, which are split into a climbing zone for more friction on rock and a traction zone for more grip while walking and you’ll finally be able to walk sure-footed to the crag.

I have had a copy of each version. These shoes offer great comfort and very good positioning precision in conjunction with a good transmission of pressure sensations. The grip is quite formidable. on the other hand, it is to be expected that the wear will be reasonably fast. On previous versions, I found that the rubber of the upper (coating) had surprisingly cracked over time, without harming the structure of the shoe, but rather impacting the aesthetic aspect. Usually I have a thin foot so I guess the fit is less suitable if you are webbed. The laces are relatively strong and the lacing allows the shoe to be adjusted as close to the foot as possible. Note that I also had a Gore-Tex version of the model (version 2 I think), which was much more rigid, but nevertheless quite powerful too (less oriented towards pure climbing). A downside to the price excluding the promo which remains high, a fortiori for a non-gore-tex shoe.
